This wiring is for a 30 amp circuit breaker serving a 30 amp 240 volt receptacle.
240 breaker wiring. A 240 volt 3 wire receptacle has three prongs two hot and one ground to accept a 3 prong plug. This breaker looks like two standard breakers stacked on top of each other and therefore requires that two breaker positions be open. In household wiring several appliances run on 240v power feeds from the breaker box. The wires usually are black or red but one may be white if it is labeled as hot with a black or red stripe near each end.
These hazards are capable of serious. The 103 cable for this circuit has 3 conductors and no ground. To wire a 240 volt circuit you must have a double pole circuit breaker. Each bus bar measured to ground will provide 120 volts so both bus bars will provide 240 volts.
Install the breaker as per the manufacturers instructions. This voltage is double that of standard household wiring and thus requires a special double pole breaker. Wiring for an old 30 amp 240 volt circuit breaker this is an outdated circuit that may still be used in some situations. This breaker takes power from both of the main bus bars.
